Privacy Policy

Sticktop is a Mac app for placing stickers on your desktop. It is made by Insania Labs LLC and sold on the Mac App Store, on Setapp, and directly through Polar. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use it.

The short version

Sticktop never sells or shares your personal data, and your images and stickers never leave your Mac. If you bought Sticktop directly, it makes two kinds of network request, one to check your licence and one to check for updates. The Setapp version reports to Setapp how often you use it. None of these involve your stickers.

Your images and stickers

When you add an image, Sticktop keeps a copy inside its own app folder on your Mac so the sticker still works if you move or delete the original. Sticker positions, sizes, borders and settings are saved in the same place. Removing a background is done on your Mac using Apple's built-in Vision framework; images are never uploaded.

Sticktop only reads files you choose yourself, through the open panel, by pasting, or by dragging them in.

No accounts, analytics or tracking

Sticktop has no accounts and no sign-in. Sticktop itself contains no analytics, advertising or tracking code. The Setapp version also includes the Setapp Framework, which tells Setapp how often you use Sticktop, as described below. The only link out of the app is an optional button that opens tōten's Instagram page in your web browser.

When Sticktop uses the network

Mac App Store version. It makes no network connections. It has no licence check and no update feed of its own, and its sandbox does not give it permission to use the network. The Instagram button hands the link to your web browser; Sticktop itself does not connect to anything.

Version bought directly. It uses the network for exactly two things:

• Your licence. When you enter your key, Sticktop sends it to Polar to activate it, along with Polar's organisation identifier and your Mac's name. The name labels that activation, so you can see which Macs use your key and free one. Sticktop re-checks the licence with Polar every 7 days. Deactivating sends the key and the activation's identifier so Polar can free it. Your key is stored in your Mac's Keychain.
• Updates. Once a day, Sticktop checks cnyldz.com/sticktop/updates/appcast.xml for a new version. Like any web request, this tells the server your IP address and which version of Sticktop you have. It sends nothing else.

Setapp version. It has no licence key and no update check of its own: Setapp activates Sticktop and keeps it up to date. It includes the Setapp Framework, which records how often you use Sticktop, along with performance data such as load times and error reports, and device information such as your macOS version and Mac model. It sends this to Setapp once a day, under Setapp's privacy notice. It never includes your images or stickers.

Purchases

On the Mac App Store, purchases, refunds and updates are handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy. On Setapp, your membership or purchase is handled by Setapp (MacPaw) under Setapp's privacy notice. If you buy directly, Polar handles the checkout as merchant of record under Polar's privacy policy. Polar receives the email address and payment details you enter at checkout and shares your email and order with Insania Labs so we can support your purchase. Insania Labs never receives your card details.

Deleting your data

Removing a sticker in Sticktop deletes its saved copy once no other sticker uses that image. To remove everything Sticktop has stored, quit the app, delete it, and delete its folder: ~/Library/Containers/com.sticktop.app for the Mac App Store version, or ~/Library/Application Support/Sticktop for the version bought directly or through Setapp. To remove your Mac's name from Polar, choose Deactivate This Mac in Sticktop's settings before deleting the app, or write to us.

Children

Sticktop does not collect information from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date.
